NCAA College Football week 2 – wrap up

NCAA week two was marked by two marque games: Notre Dame v. Michigan and USC v. Ohio State. In the first game, Notre Dame, which was 18th ranked and is now dropped from the rankings, looked to the contest as the "must-win" if The Fighting Irish were to prove to themselves and to America that they were indeed BCS-bound. Heck with that; the best John Hughes film ever was "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"! That is one of my top 10 movies of all time. "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" is tops in my movie collection and when I think of Chicago, my hometown, that's the movie I think of. |

SF Giants Opening Day: The Party Economy

zennie2005.blogspot.com - San Francisco and the SF Bay Area has developed what I call a "party economy" where to the layperson people have events with food and drink and music everywhere, but really their marketing gatherings to present a restaurant or a type of drink or even a car. These happenings are the lifeblood of San Francisco and are prevalent during the Opening Day Game of the San Francisco Giants' baseball season. The game pitting the Giants against the Milwaulkee Brewers was one I did not see much off. I was too busy talking to old friends and meeting new people. Even with the wet weather, which eventually cleared, spirits were high, smiles were many, and at some events people dressed as if it was 90 degrees outside. I went to meet friends in what has become an annual ritual for us. They're in the marketing and promotions business, and have relationships with me that are over 10 years in the case of two friends, Beth Schnitzer and Randy Gordon, who helped me form the bid to bring the 2005 Super Bowl to Oakland (we lost to Jacksonville at the Atlanta Fall NFL Owners meeting in 2000). From those two I've developed a long list of friends and contacts in the restaurant, political, media, and hospitality areas. All of the people come out on opening day. The parties were many. In my case, I was dragged to an event thrown by Epic Roasthouse, the new eatery created by restauranteur Pat Kuleto and Pete Sittnick, who's Epic's managing partner.
